Neature ("we") runs neaturehikes.com, a free tool for checking the permits, passes, and rules for hikes. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: we collect only what we need to run the site, we never sell your information, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
What we collect
- Account details. If you create an account: your email address, and your name if you add it.
- Alerts. The hikes you watch, your trip dates, and which alerts you want, so we can email you.
- Things you send us. Photos you upload, and "Report a change" messages. If you report while signed out, we only get your email if you choose to add it.
- Donations. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe shares your name, email, and the amount with us so we can keep records and send receipts.
- Site usage. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and popular pages. It does not use cookies and does not track you across other sites.
- Your location (only if you ask). If you tap "Use my location" or "Near me", your browser shares your location so we can sort hikes by distance. It stays in your browser and is not saved to our servers.
How we use it
- To run your account, send the alerts you asked for, and show your saved hikes.
- To review reports and photos and keep hike information accurate.
- To process donations and report how funds are used.
- To understand which pages are useful and fix problems.
We don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or send marketing email you didn't ask for. Every alert email has a link to stop alerts for that hike.
Services we rely on
We use a small set of providers to run the site, and they handle data only to provide their service: Supabase (accounts and database), Netlify (website hosting), Resend (email delivery), Stripe (payments), and Cloudflare (domain and visit counts). Maps use OpenStreetMap and OpenTopoMap tiles, and forecasts come from the National Weather Service, so your browser contacts those services when you view a map or forecast.
Photos you share
Photos you upload are reviewed before they appear. Once approved, they are public on the hike page. Please don't upload photos that show other people's faces without their permission. Ask us anytime to take a photo down.
How long we keep it
We keep account and alert information while your account is open. Alerts stop sending after your trip dates. Donation records are kept as long as needed for financial records.
Your choices
- Pause or delete alerts anytime from My alerts, or turn off email alerts in your profile.
- To see, correct, or delete your information or your account, email hello@neaturehikes.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
Kids
Neature is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For bigger changes we'll let account holders know by email.
