What you need

Parking and passes

Spring weekends (mid-April to early June), parking needs a free Dog Mountain permit from Recreation.gov ($2 booking fee) plus a Northwest Forest Pass. Riding the Dog Mountain Shuttle skips both.

Getting there

The hike starts at Dog Mountain Trailhead. Save directions offline before you leave, since mountain roads often lose cell service.
